Get ready to delete those outdated music identification apps! TikTok is shaking things up with its brand-new “Sound Search” feature, and it’s about to change everything for music enthusiasts and TikTok addicts alike.
Currently in testing, the innovation allows users to identify songs by humming, singing, or playing a snippet. Think of it as Shazam’s cooler cousin, but way more TikTok-ified.
While YouTube Music has just recently introduced a feature like this for its subscribers, Sound Search by TikTok is surely going to take it all up to the next level. Just think of this—you hear some really catchy tune on a TikTok video, but you have no idea what it is. Through Sound Search, you would finally be able to do so by just tapping the microphone icon in the search bar, humming the melody, and voila! TikTok reveals the song title and even links you to relevant videos featuring that very tune.
According to TikTok, Sound Search was designed mostly for song identification and not really for recognizing specific TikTok sounds. However, it showed great potential in the recognition and processing of popular TikTok sounds and memes.
This new feature comes as a huge win for TikTok, since music is the basis of its trends. With Sound Search, it’s easier to discover new music or further engage with your favorite viral TikTok sounds. It’s just a matter of time before Sound Search becomes part of everyone’s experience on the app.
