The interactive music game Splash Skate and Music on Roblox has had more than 450 million total plays. Now, Splash joins the list of the newest AI firms to receive a Fairly Trained certification.
Fairly Trained is an initiative started this year that spotlights AI models trained in a manner compliant with copyright. Splash became the 16th organization certified and joins other music AI startups like Beatoven, Endel, and Infinite Album in proving ethical training practices.
“We strongly believe in the Fairly Trained principle that it is unethical for generative AI companies to make money off the backs of artist and songwriters without compensation or attribution and are proud to have earned the Fairly Trained certification,” noted CEO Tracy Chan.
As major labels are now suing other AI leaders, such as Suno and Udio, over alleged unauthorized training, Fairly Trained serves to reassure companies that deal with datasets appropriately. According to Ed Newton-Rex, the founder of Fairly Trained, that sort of certification only becomes more important. It makes a case that responsible training does not have to come at the cost of innovation, which alleviates the fears of artists who are concerned about how AI is going to affect their livelihoods.
