The reigning queen of music streaming now holds a new title: Billie Eilish has dethroned The Weeknd as Spotify’s most listened to artist monthly. The platform announced this changing of the guard on August 19th.

Just last week, The Weeknd was on socials championing the up-and-coming Eilish as she aimed to eventually top his streaming record, which he’s been tweeting encouraging words and emojis with respect saying: “Records are made to be broken—sink the putt for 18 if you have to.”.

Eilish is the youngest of the streaming elite, solidifying as much in June 2024 by boasting over 100 million listeners to her music each month. Only Taylor Swift and the heretofore No. 1-ranked Weeknd reached that threshold at a younger age. It’s no small wonder then that eight of her tracks have now been streamed more than a billion times a piece.

Eilish has now released her third full-length studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, in April 2024, and as has been the pattern with Billie, it’s another collection of hits that prove the multifaceted talent Eilish is. Lead singles “Birds of a Feather” and “Chihiro” led the way it turned into a No. 2 Billboard debut followed with long runs on the chart, which advocates once again the consistency of the Billie Eilish fans on previous achievements.
