The 2024 election cycle is already heating up it seems, as former President Donald Trump took a jab at pop superstar Taylor Swift on his social media platform Truth Social recently. Swift had openly endorsed Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz for president and vice president respectively on Instagram.

Just days after Swift revealed her support for the Democratic ticket, Trump blasted the singer in a post simply stating “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”. His distaste for Swift stemmed from her backing of Harris, who he faced off against in a televised debate for the election.

In her Instagram post, Swift explained she was throwing her support behind Harris as she believes the current vice president will champion the rights and important issues Swift cares about. She also praised Walz for his longstanding advocacy of LGBTQ+ rights, abortion access, and other social issues. Swift closed her message signing off humorously as “Childless Cat Lady”.

This echoed past remarks made by JD Vance, Trump’s running mate in Ohio, where he lamented the country being led by “childless cat ladies”. Swift’s endorsement understandably ruffled some feathers on the right.

Trump had also recently shared edited images on his platform implying Swift supported him, which she disputed as false. She said such misinformation fueled her decision to publicly state her election plans. The Harris campaign responded in turn with a creative statement referencing 28 Swift songs to slam Trump’s “bad week”.
