Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes, wife of NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes, seemed to put rumors of a feud behind them this weekend as they both went out to catch a US Open tennis match together.
Recently, there were speculations of the rift between the two women, highly due to Swift’s highly outspoken nature for liberal causes while Brittany has shown support for politicians such as Donald Trump on social media in the past. On Sunday, though, the duo was all smiles as they sat courtside to watch the tennis along with their respective significant others, Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes.
Holding hands and whispering to one another, it was apparent that Taylor and Brittany were attempting to show a unified front and dispel all rumors of any conflict between them. At least some fans aren’t buying it across social media, pointing to an earlier Chiefs game when the two wives didn’t sit together-the reason at the time cited being a different “vibe”.
Many fans expressed disappointment on social media that Swift continued the friendship despite Brittany endorsing Donald Trump in the elections. Fans accused Swift of hypocrisy for speaking out for liberal causes but staying close to Brittany, who also defended her brother-in-law against SA accusations.
According to rumors, the reason Taylor and Brittany have remained such good friends is that they have deliberately made the conscious effort to never discuss politics with each other, simply because they are both aware that it could cause irreparable damage to their friendship.
During one of Swift’s recent parties, for instance, guests were told that politics was an “off limits” subject to steer clear of potential arguments. While Swift has been fairly outspoken on some issues in the past, she and Travis Kelce reportedly are cognizant of their influence and would rather not comment on the upcoming US election.
Many have pointed to Swift’s 2020 documentary, in which she talked about how she felt compelled to show Pride Month support publicly while keeping mum on other issues. The decision to speak on political matters left fans divided as to whether it was to do with career.
