Taylor Swift closed the European leg of the Eras tour to a close in magnificent style: during her final appearance at Wembley Stadium in London, she treated the audience to a collaboration with Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine. Swift welcomed Welch onto the stage during the finale show on 20 August to perform “Florida!!!”—a track the two had worked on together for her recent album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department.’
Swift and Welch delivered an impassioned rendition of the song about wanting to disappear from one’s regrets in flowing white dresses. The striking performance had tens of thousands holding onto every word. Based on what Swift had previously said, she wrote “Florida!!!” — cribbing both crime shows and that instinct people have to flee to the Sunshine State to start over.
Welch further shared reflections on getting to work with Swift in studio, saying that with full awareness of her global fame, Swift remained ultra down-to-earth. She shared that the bonding with Swift over creating the song was a great fun—though she admitted she was really surprised later by its inclusion on the album.
