It’s been a minute since The Beatles released fresh material, but their devoted fanbase remains as loyal as ever. The legendary rockers dropped their comeback single “Now and Then” last week to widespread approval, with the tune racking up impressive streaming numbers on Spotify all over the globe and shooting to the top spots on charts in the UK.

While Taylor Swift came in a close second with her new track during that same initial period, “Now and Then” seized the number one spot as the most streamed song in the UK on its premiere date. Not too shabby for a group whose last single came nearly three decades past. Stateside, the track launched at number 71 – modest in comparison but still the highest debut of the day with over 450k streams on Spotify alone in America.

The reception was warm worldwide as well based on Spotify’s global rankings, with “Now and Then” entering at number 42 globally and collecting over two million streams total in just over a day. With solid iTunes sales likely factored in, the throwback tune seems poised to rise on the charts internationally in the coming week – perhaps performing strongest in the UK where The Beatles’ legend was born.

The revived single first originated as a demo cut by the late John Lennon decades ago, though his voice was unusable on the original. New AI technology recently made it possible to enhance the recording, allowing Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr to reunite and finish what John started. Now a new generation can enjoy this little piece of Beatles history nearly 50 years in the making.
