Reigning Queen Regina George is back – and this time she’s brought some musical friends. Reneé Rapp has dropped her new hit single “Not My Fault” featuring hip hop megastar Megan Thee Stallion. The track serves as the lead song on the incoming Mean Girls movie soundtrack.
Rapp reprises her role as the notorious Plastics ringleader Regina in the Paramount film adaptation of the iconic 2004 comedy-turned-musical. Set to release in theaters this January, Mean Girls tells the classic tale of Cady Heron navigating the social hierarchy at her new high school. Of course, that means butting heads with Regina and her clique of popular girl clones.
The movie soundtrack lands on January 12 via Interscope, showcasing songs from the star-studded cast including Rapp as Regina, Angourie Rice as Cady, Auli’i Cravalho as Janis, and Avantika as Karen. Fans can expect plenty of catchy pop anthems capturing the cutthroat drama of adolescent politics.
In a past Rolling Stone interview, Rapp opened up about using her Broadway debut as a springboard for bigger aspirations in music. Having grown exhausted from the demanding theater schedule, she insisted on provisions to further her pop star dreams. Since then, Reneé released her self-titled debut and is cementing her status as a singer to watch with “Not My Fault’s” party-ready energy and Megan’s fiery verse. It seems like Regina’s pop world takeover has only just begun.
