Wave Alchemy recently unveiled Dawn, a new reverb plugin aiming to recreate the acclaimed EMT 250 digital reverb processor from the 1970s. To celebrate the release, Dawn is available at an introductory discount until September 2023. Additionally, anyone purchasing the Radiance plate reverb plugin within this time frame will receive Dawn completely free.

The original EMT 250, released in 1976, was a breakthrough as the world’s first digital reverb unit. Despite only 250 being produced, it gained popularity for its clean, detailed reverberation compared to previous mechanical systems. Wave Alchemy utilized digital signal processing and convolution modelling to faithfully mimic the EMT 250’s signature sound quality while adding new capabilities.

Dawn provides the same range of reverb times from 0.4 to 4.5 seconds. Additional controls allow adjusting low and high frequency decay. A “Space” option unleashes significantly longer decays for ambitious ambient textures. An improved “Modern” mode widens dynamic range and sharpened tails.

Further customization includes pre-delay, low and air filters, smoothing transients, and ducking to maintain dry signal presence. “Flux” adds spatial filtering and pitch shifts, while “Ensemble” emulates a chorus and stereo spread.

Advanced features offer “Clean”, “Vintage” and grit-inducing modes. Gating, release shaping, and individual width controls for low/high frequencies are joined by a four-band EQ operating in left/right or mid/side configurations.

Dawn supports MacOS and Windows in VST3, AU and AAX formats without system constraints. Until September 2023, it sells at an introductory price of £37, reduced from £49 thereafter for those seeking authentic vintage reverb quality at an affordable price.
