Twice’s iconic maknae Tzuyu is stepping into the spotlight as a soloist with her debut album “abouTZU”. In a press conference ahead of the album’s release, the 25-year-old Taiwanese singer expressed her excitement to showcase the fresh sides of her talented personality, separate from her duties at Twice.
“I want people to see me as the sexy and mature solo singer Tzuyu, instead of the cute maknae of Twice,” Tzuyu shared shyly. True to her words, the lead single “Run Away” underscores Tzuyu’s mesmerizing vocals over retro dance beats, conveying a newfound sensuality. Though daunted by the challenge, Tzuyu was compelled by her desire to evolve as an artist.
Apart from the radiant title track composed by industry veteran Johnny Simpson, “abouTZU” presents rich sonic diversity. Tzuyu collaborated with BTOB’s Peniel on the emotional “Heartbreak in Heaven” and rapper pH-1’s playful “Lazy Baby”. Fans also see Tzuyu’s growth as she wrote lyrics for the very first time in the sentimental ballad “Fly”.
As the third Twice member to branch out as a soloist after Nayeon and Jihyo, Tzuyu drew courage seeing their accomplishments. “The members were so supportive of me and I could ask them for advice whenever I became worried.. Watching the members and other female singers on stage made me wonder what it would be like for me to be on the stage on my own.” she shared gratefully. Armed with lessons from her debut, Tzuyu is poised for greater artistic realization in the future.
