Just when fans thought they had Lady Gaga’s upcoming album plans figured out, the pop star threw everyone for a loop. After a week of cryptic clues, Gaga revealed on Tuesday that her next release will be a companion album for her upcoming film, Joker: Folie à Deux, rather than her long-awaited seventh solo studio effort.
Titled Harlequin, the album is named after Gaga’s character Harley Quinn in the sequel to 2019’s Joker. In an Instagram post, she shared the cover which shows her washing clown makeup off in the shower while fully clothed. The artist also included what appears to be the tracklist from the back of a milk carton, listing 13 song titles like “Get Happy” and “Oh When the Saints”.
Many fans had speculated that Gaga’s string of mysterious posts and billboards hinting at “LG 6.5” referred to her seventh album title. However, the surprise announcement reveals Harlequin will serve as the soundtrack for Joker 2 where she reprises her role. While it’s not the solo album fans expected, Harlequin arrives this Friday on September 27th.
Representatives for Lady Gaga have been contacted for more details on whether this soundtrack indicates her seventh studio album plans have been delayed or altered.
