Halsey’s looking to go full Y2K nostalgic with her highly-anticipated new single, “Lucky”, out July 26. And she’s recruiting none other than a former teen queen to soundtrack the journey.

This week, clues began to drop across Halsey’s social accounts that hinted her latest would pay homage to Britney Spears’ classic 1999 hit of the same name. It really did throw fans directly into a pink-hued time capsule with fake tabloid covers and faux Disney Channel commercials.

Of course, Halsey would go all in on this look, dying her locks a playful cotton candy shade to match Britney’s defiant early style. “When I was 5, Britney felt like she was singing to me. Now at 27, these lyrics hit different,” she shared in a sneak peek, oozing admiration for her influences.

“Lucky” is the second single to follow “The End,” where Halsey declared she’s taking back her agency over her health struggles. The comeback for the artist is about to be the most empowering, while celebrating the past and building a path.
