Kim Petras has thrilled fans by unexpectedly releasing her debut studio album “Problematique“. The German pop singer had begun working on the album in 2021 for Republic Records, but it was shelved due to reported label issues. Some tracks from the album even leaked online beforehand.

However, Petras maintained ownership of the music and decided to independently share it with listeners now. “Problematique” delivers 10 electro-pop tracks inspired by French house. Songs like “Born Again” and “Dirty Things” showcase Petras’ signature blend of intricate beats and candid lyrics. Featured artist Paris Hilton also lends her vocals to the single “All She Wants”.

In a statement, Petras reflected on the journey of creating “Problematique“. She poured heart and soul into the album, only to face disappointment over its cancellation. However, an outpouring of fan love for the leaked songs convinced Petras to self-release the music her supporters clearly wanted.

The release of “Problematique” comes after a momentous year for Petras’ career. In 2022, she made history as the first openly transgender Grammy winner for her collaboration “Unholy” with Sam Smith. That same hit single also topped the Billboard Hot 100, another first.

By surprising fans with “Problematique” ahead of her international tour, Petras aims to keep things fresh and unexpected and take back artistic ownership. She hopes listeners enjoy rediscovering the album she is so proud of. With its release, Petras once again breaks boundaries and celebrates self-determination through music.
