On November 16, Cassie filed a federal lawsuit against Diddy, accusing the hip-hop icon of rape and a decade-long pattern of abuse dating back to when she was 19. Cassie, a former signee of Diddy’s label, Bad Boy Records, asserted claims of sex trafficking, human trafficking, sexual battery, sexual assault, and gender-motivated violence, among other charges. Allegations suggest that Diddy’s controlling behavior began in 2005, intensifying after Cassie signed with his record label the following year, giving him control over various aspects of her life, including her residence, vehicle, wardrobe, and medical records.

The lawsuit details incidents of abuse, intimidation, and violence, including allegations that Diddy targeted rapper Kid Cudi, who briefly dated Cassie in 2011. One day after filing the lawsuit, Cassie and Diddy reached an out-of-court settlement, the terms of which were not disclosed. Diddy denied all allegations, and his lawyer emphasized that settling does not imply admission of guilt.

Cassie’s legal action was filed under the Adult Survivors Act, a New York law providing a one-year window for victims of sexual abuse, aged 18 or older at the time, to bring cases in the state after statutes of limitations have expired. Cassie sought unspecified compensatory damages. The lawsuit also claimed that Diddy forced her into “freak offs,” involving engagement in sex acts with male sex workers while he watched, recorded, and took explicit photos.

The music industry responded to the allegations, with Kesha modifying lyrics in a performance and 50 Cent commenting on the settlement. Former Danity Kane member Aubrey O’Day expressed support for Cassie, and Diddy’s previous allegations of abuse from other individuals resurfaced. Diddy’s history includes a lawsuit from his former personal chef and allegations of assault in various incidents over the years.

Since settling with Cassie, Diddy has maintained a low profile, but a recent paparazzi photo captured him appearing solemn in his backyard on November 18
