Dua Lipa has recently parted ways with her film director boyfriend Romain Gavras, matching the theme of independence in her new single “Houdini.” According to sources of the British tabloid The Sun, the powerhouse vocalist has chose to focus on her thriving music career and upcoming third studio album over continuing her romance of around eight months with the 42-year-old French artist.

An insider with knowledge of the couple stated that the split came suddenly as Lipa dedicated herself fully to releasing new music. “She has blinkers on when it comes to her career and the pair ended the relationship before things turned sour”the source mentioned. It is believed that Romain felt Dua was overly devoted to her work, but she remains committed to advancing her artistic talents and reaching new heights without slowing down for relationship demands.

News of the breakup comes as little surprise, given subtle hints in Lipa’s breakup anthem “Houdini,” released while the two were reportedly on rocky terms already. After making their red carpet debut together at Cannes Film Festival this past spring and spending a romantic summer touring Europe, Lipa and Gavras were last seen together in London in early November in what may have been one of their final outings as a couple. Neither party has directly addressed the breakup reports yet. But if true, listeners can expect Lipa’s forthcoming album to contain hints of the failed romance between her powerful vocals and artistic drive that seemingly couldn’t coincide with romance longterm.
