It has been a week since Beyoncé stirred up a crowd of supporters during a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign. However, former President Donald Trump still appears fixated on the singer’s powerful endorsement of the sitting VP.
While campaigning in Green Bay, Wisconsin last Wednesday, Trump took the stage wearing an orange safety vest. He addressed Beyoncé’s appearance at the Houston event, held in her hometown, saying “four nights ago they got Beyoncé…uhhh Beyoncé.” The crowd appeared to boo at the mention of the Grammy-winning artist. “They got Beyoncé,” Trump repeated with a sigh. “We don’t need Beyoncé, we don’t need anybody…all you got is me, and I don’t have a guitar.”
The Harris campaign seized on Trump’s disgruntled remarks, reposting the clip of him disparaging Beyoncé. His stunt came on the same day he bizarrely rode around an airport tarmac in a garbage truck, seemingly attempting to spin a gaffe President Joe Biden had made about Trump supporters.
At his rally, Trump vowed to be “the protector of women” whether they like it or not. He alleged Harris supporters booed both her and Beyoncé, though no evidence supports this claim about the singer’s warm reception. Beyoncé had introduced Harris as “a mother who cares deeply” about empowering future generations.
As the 2024 campaign season heats up, Trump clinging to critiques of cultural figures like Beyoncé shows him grasping for attention in increasingly bizarre ways, even as his rhetoric faces growing rebuke from stars and citizens alike.
