The hit song “Blank Space” by Taylor Swift has made a return to the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time since its original run in 2014-2015. The song, released as part of Swift’s 2014 album “1989”, logged 8.4 million streams in the U.S. during the tracking week of August 4th-10th. This represents a 23% increase in streams compared to the previous week. Radio airplay of the song remained steady, with 4.3 million audience impressions. Digital downloads of “Blank Space” saw a 51% jump, totalling 1,000 sales for the week.
This revival of the song’s popularity seems to coincide with Swift’s ongoing “The Eras Tour”, during which she has been performing “Blank Space”. It has also gained renewed attention in anticipation of Swift’s rerelease of her album “1989” under her own control. Titled “1989 (Taylor’s Version)”, this is the fourth re-recorded album Swift has issued from her earlier work. Slated for an October 27th release, the original “1989” spent 11 weeks at Number One on the Billboard 200 chart.
When originally released, “Blank Space” was a massive hit for Swift, holding the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks. This marked her third chart-topping single and her longest-running Number One to that point. The song went on to receive Grammy nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance, cementing its status as one of Swift’s most iconic songs.
