On Sunday afternoon, thousands of music lovers discovered they were unable to access their favourite streaming service, Spotify. According to the website Downdetector, which allows users to log issues, over 40,000 reports indicated the popular platform was experiencing outages.
Spotify acknowledged service disruptions in a tweet, informing followers they were investigating the problem. Frustrated users responded about how the technical difficulties interfered with planned activities like family gatherings and workouts.
Luckily, the streaming giant was soon able to resolve the issue. Approximately an hour after confirming the outages, Spotify reported everything was running smoothly again.
As the top music streaming app worldwide, Spotify hosts an enormous community of over 626 million registered members. With more paying subscribers than any other service, totaling 246 million, even a brief disruption can leave many without tunes. Fortunately, this temporary glitch was fixed relatively quickly to the relief of the massive Spotify fanbase.
