Cybercriminals have set their sights on the hottest social app, TikTok. In a post discussing ongoing security issues, a TikTok spokesperson confirmed that several high-profile accounts were compromised in a recent attack, including reality TV queen Paris Hilton and broadcasting behemoth CNN.

Though TikTok declined to provide many specifics about how the breach occurred, they acknowledged a “very limited” number of users had unauthorized access to their accounts. Thankfully, it appears most people’s data remained secure, TikTok reps revealed Hilton’s page was targeted but not breached.

Not so fortunate was CNN, with TikTok admitting their account fell victim to the hackers. However, they say the situation is now under control, noting “We have been collaborating closely with CNN to restore account access and implement enhanced security measures to safeguard their account moving forward.”

While the full scope of the incident is still coming into focus, one thing is crystal clear – TikTok isn’t playing around when it comes to account security. “We are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the platform and will continue to monitor for any further inauthentic activity” the company pledged.

The news is an unwelcome distraction as TikTok wages legal battles over a potential US ban. With millions hooked worldwide and politicians joining the platform, it’s a prime target for cybercriminals looking to cause chaos or steal sensitive information.
