Eminem is back with a new solo single titled “Houdini.” While fans were excited for new music from Slim Shady, one lyric in particular caught widespread attention.
In the track’s opening verse, Em appears to reference Megan Thee Stallion and the widely publicized 2020 shooting involving her and Tory Lanez. “If I asked Meg for a collab, you think I’d have a shot at a feature?” he poses.
The name-drop upset many of Megan’s fans. Across social media platforms, supporters swiftly condemned Eminem for what they saw as making light of Megan’s trauma. “Why’s he coming for Meg like that?” tweeted one listener. Others agreed the reference crossed a line.
The highly publicized shooting case three years ago left Megan hospitalized with gunshot wounds to the foot. Lanez received a 10-year prison sentence last fall for carrying out the attack. While Eminem stopped short of openly taking sides, his apparent allusion still rang disrespectful to many.
Of course, controversy is nothing new for the rap legend with the sharpest tongue. Over his decades-long career, Eminem has taken aim at every major name in pop culture through his cutting wordplay. From the infamous Britney and Christina disses to countless other targets, he’s long pushed boundaries.
