Things are changing fast with new technologies. Lately, some artists are worried about what artificial intelligence (AI) could do to music. AI is getting better at copying humans. This has some big-name singers, songwriters, and musicians banding together to protect their talents!

Led by the Artists Rights Alliance, lots of big supporters signed an open letter. They want tech companies and music streamers to promise responsible use of AI. Signers like Katy Perry, Billie Eilish, and Smokey Robinson say AI could help spread music in new ways. However some apps now just copy people’s songs instead of respecting their work. The group wants computer codes banned from copying songs or making money off them without permission.

“Make no mistake: we believe that, when used responsibly, AI has enormous potential to advance human creativity and enable the development of new and exciting experiences for music fans everywhere. Unfortunately, some platforms and developers are employing AI to sabotage creativity and undermine artistes, songwriters, musicians and rightsholders,”

the petition said.

Tons of famous folks from different music styles added their voices. Names like the Jonas Brothers, Jon Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, and Stevie Wonder say machines can’t imitate, replace, or refuse to pay real musicians. Queen’s Brian May was unsure last fall if a year from now, humans, and AI could make songs that sound the same. As artists themselves, they just want to keep doing their hard-earned craft without machines copying or getting in the way.

With how music making is changing online, artists now fight to keep new tech helping real people first – not just copying them! Their group aims to guide changes with kindness, so future tunes are made the old way – by hearts, not circuits.
