The Young Thug trial, a legal saga that’s already broken records in Georgia, took a surprising turn when a witness revealed his unexpected connection to the rapper. Ira Singleton, a former Hertz employee, was called to testify about a 2014 Infiniti Q50 Sedan allegedly used in the murder of Donovon Thomas Jr. But it was during cross-examination that Singleton dropped a bombshell: his love for Young Thug’s music.

“Personally? No,” Singleton said when asked if he knew Young Thug. “Wait, hold on. Can I go back?… I didn’t know Jeffrey Williams by that name. I knew Young Thug, yes.” He then added, “‘Lifestyle’ had just dropped. Everybody knew that song. Banger.”

Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, has been behind bars for over two years, facing charges related to RICO activity, gang involvement, and drug offenses. The trial, which kicked off six months ago, is projected to last well into next year, making it the longest in Georgia history.

Now in its sixth month, the high-profile trial has stretched on longer than any other in Georgia history as prosecutors aim to prove a broad RICO conspiracy case against Thug and other defendants. Thug’s co-defendant Yak Gotti’s lawyer Doug Weinstein voiced frustrations with the protracted proceedings, questioning if additional witness testimonies have contributed meaningfully at this stage.

Throughout the ordeal, Thug has received public backings from fellow musicians like Drake, Quavo and T.I, who recently declared confidence in his friend’s exoneration.
