It seems like a collaboration between Taylor Swift and Matty Healy is definitely not in the cards, at least as it pertains to Swift’s upcoming re-recording of her 1989 album.
A representative for Swift shut down rumors that either Healy or his band The 1975 would make an appearance on the record. When asked by The Times, the spokesperson confirmed “neither Matt Healy nor The 1975 are featured on this album.”
It’s understandable why fans speculated about a possible collaboration, as Swift and Healy were spotted hanging out together several times earlier this year during her Eras tour, fueling dating rumors. Healy even joined Swift’s opening act Phoebe Bridgers for a song during a Nashville concert.
However, their alleged relationship reportedly fizzled out in June after Healy faced backlash for controversial comments made on a podcast. While he later apologized, especially to rapper Ice Spice who was mocked, Swift and Ice Spice have since bonded and worked together, as shown during their friendly interactions at the MTV VMAs.
Healy is not the only speculated collaborator, as ex-Harry Styles has also been mentioned due to his inspiration for songs in 1989. Various other artists ranging from Selena Gomez to Halsey, Dua Lipa, and Nicki Minaj have come up in rumors too. Only time will tell if any rumors ring true.
Swift announced the 1989 re-release during her final SoFi Stadium show in August, delighting fans. Set for an October 27 drop, Swift noted this album holds a special place, as the 5 extra “From The Vault” tracks are incredible additions she can’t believe were left off originally. It seems 1989 remains one of her favorite re-recordings thus far.
