In the glamorous world of Hollywood, appearances can often be deceiving. Selena Gomez, the talented actress and singer, learned this lesson firsthand when she attended the Los Angeles premiere of the Netflix film “Emilia Perez” in late October.

Gomez, who plays a leading role in the highly anticipated film, has been open about her ongoing health battles, including her struggle with lupus and a subsequent kidney transplant in 2017. However, it seems that her appearance at the premiere sparked unwelcome speculation and criticism from social media users.

In a since-deleted TikTok video, Gomez could be seen posing on the red carpet and occasionally placing her hands in front of her stomach. This prompted social media users to speculate about her appearance, prompting the 30-year-old star to defend herself in the comments.

“This makes me sick,” Gomez wrote. “I have [SIBO] in my small intestine. It flares up. I don’t care that I don’t look like a stick figure. I don’t have that body. End of story. No I am NOT a victim. I’m just human.”

Despite the criticism and speculation, Gomez remains steadfast in her commitment to prioritizing her health and well-being over societal expectations. Gomez’s willingness to openly discuss her health challenges is a testament to her strength and resilience. Rather than succumbing to the pressure to conform to unrealistic beauty standards, she has chosen to embrace her humanity and use her platform to raise awareness about the realities of living with chronic illness.
