Ricky Martin stood out among a star-studded cast in the Apple TV+ series “Palm Royale”. He portrayed Robert Diaz, a complex gay bartender struggling with his identity in 1960s Florida.
“An acting coach told me once, ‘Actors can’t lie, you just gotta wear the shoes of the character that you’re portraying and act exactly like you would behave in any situation.’ To just be honest, transparent and hope for the best, and that’s what I’ve done with this character,”

Robert acts stoic but proves a fierce friend, earning the audience’s heart. In a moving scene, he simply says “I just want to be a person.” Martin aimed to portray Robert with honesty and transparency, letting vulnerability take center stage.
The finale leaves Robert’s fate dangling after being shot. Martin says fans are abuzz theorizing what’s next. The cliffhanger opens possibilities for further exploring the rich world and characters.
While Martin has acted since age 15, “Palm Royale” rekindled his passion. He sees himself as a natural storyteller, able to immerse audiences through music or dramatic roles. Martin hopes to take on more acting challenges, drawn to the creative fluidity of sharing different stories and perspectives.
