Warner Music is mixing melody and medicine in a novel pairing with UK startup MediMusic. Hoping to conduct some transatlantic tunes-for-healing trials, the unconventional collaboration plans controlled studies applying music therapy in surprising settings. MediMusic will curate custom calming compilations from Warner’s vast catalog, then monitor participants’ physiological pulse and emotional state as melodies gently migrate their minds. Initial investigations involve hospitals and care homes, but future facilities may feature further feel-good frequencies if all progresses positively.

To craft these customized care-inspired playlists, MediMusic leverages machine learning magic. Proprietary algorithms analyze each song’s digital DNA, isolating influencer elements like tempo, harmony, or memory-evoking lyrics. Combined with a listener’s metrics and mood, these music genome mappings manifest meticulously mixed mindfulness mixes. MediBeat, a streamlined streaming device delivering such healing hits through headphones, is also involved.

Michael Baines, Warner’s head honcho of digital developments and distribution deals, expressed eagerness to explore music’s medically-proven mind-mending manners. “At WMG, we are focused on finding new ways for our artists and music to be used for good, to benefit society, and to empower an ecosystem of partners with similar goals,” he shared. Gary Jones, MediMusic’s chief executive, concurred that collaborating expands their global goal of delivering music’s medicine. “This partnership with WMG is hugely important in helping us on our global mission to prescribe music and medicine to ease anxiety, pain and stress,” he explained.
