Patreon, the subscription-based membership platform, appears poised to expand its offerings after implementing some noteworthy changes. The company has confidently added a free membership tier while also empowering creators to confidently sell digital products both on and off the platform.

Patreon has introduced a new free membership tier for creators and fans, providing an opportunity for new creators to build a fanbase before monetizing, as well as for established creators to expand their community with casual fans. This free level allows fans to receive updates directly via email, the Patreon app, and the web homepage—circumventing algorithmic interference found on other platforms.

Creators now have the ability to monetize their work through Patreon’s system for selling digital products. Patreon allows creators to sell music, videos, podcasts, and other downloadable content to their patrons as well as the general public. Patreon handles all aspects of global payment processing for these product sales. Once the creator uploads a product and establishes a price, Patreon generates a product page. As more products are uploaded, Patreon aggregates them into a searchable online shop that creators can promote across different platforms.
