Music television network MTV revealed on Monday that Colombian singer Shakira will receive this year’s prestigious Video Vanguard Award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. The annual awards ceremony will broadcast live from Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center on September 12th.
As one of the most influential Latin artists of all time, Shakira has achieved massive success across the global music industry. Six of her viral music videos have surpassed 1 billion views each on YouTube, including her worldwide hits “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).”
Significantly, Shakira will take the stage to perform during the VMAs broadcast, where she has previously won four Moon Person trophies over the course of her illustrious career. The acclaimed singer is also nominated this year in four categories, including Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration for “TQG” featuring Karol G, and Best Latin for both “TQG” and “Acrostico.”
