Katy Perry, known for chart-topping anthems like “I Kissed a Girl” and “Firework,” released five acclaimed albums between 2008-2020 under her previous label. These albums, including “Teenage Dream” and “Prism,” showcased her evolution as an artist and influence on popular culture.

While Perry took a step back from recording in recent years to focus on family and philanthropic efforts, her commercial success paved the way for future artists. Her iconic songs became ingrained in the musical landscape over the 2010s.

Litmus Music, backed by significant investment firm The Carlyle Group, finalized its first major purchase in December 2022 when it obtained country star Keith Urban’s master recordings. Adding Perry’s extensive catalog demonstrates Litmus’ ability to secure deals with established superstars.

Perry’s longtime industry colleague Hank Forsyth, who now leads Litmus, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to keep working together. Both see Perry’s songwriting as making a lasting global impact. The deal gives Litmus ownership of Perry’s recordings and writing credits going forward.

With deep experience in the entertainment industry, Carlyle believes this acquisition displays Litmus’ talent for inking partnerships with top musical talent worldwide. Carlyle’s investment arm has committed over $3 billion to the sports, media, and entertainment sectors since 2018, allowing customized solutions for artists.
