Halsey gave fans a special treat by revealing her latest single will be a remake of Britney Spears’ 2000 hit “Lucky.” The 29-year-old singer, who uses she/they pronouns, took to social media to give listeners a sneak peek of the new track.

In a short video clip posted to her account, Halsey is seen rocking a pink hairdo along with microscopic shorts and a crop top displaying the word “Lucky.” But it’s the vocals that will really get fans excited – Halsey performs nearly the same haunting chorus Britney made famous over 20 years ago.

As the “Closer” singer explained, that chorus has held deep meaning for them since childhood. “’24 years later, these words hit different. love you forever” Halsey shared

While Halsey pays homage to the original with her own spin on the nostalgic lyrics, this isn’t the first time she’s shown love for Britney. Back in 2017, some critics tried to paint Halsey as dissing the Princess of Pop in an interview. However, she quickly set the record straight – tweeting how much she loves Britney and that “her genius is undeniable.”

It seems Britney herself is a fan now too. The megastars have been spotted following each other on Instagram in recent years. When Spears made headlines in 2021 by fighting for her freedom from a controversial conservatorship, Halsey voiced strong support for allowing her control over her own life and healthcare choices.

Fans can expect to hear Halsey’s take on “Lucky” featured on her currently untitled fifth studio album coming soon. After opening up about health struggles last year, she’s ready to channel her personal experiences into uplifting art.
