Gracie Abrams spilled all the juicy details about the unforgettable night she collaborated with Taylor Swift on the new song “Us”. During an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Abrams recounted how their songwriting sesh took an unexpected turn that could have ended in disaster.

It all started innocently enough with dinner and drinks as the pair bonded over their music and creative processes. Soon they were back at Swift’s place pouring over new songs and trading lyrical ideas back and forth. The impromptu brainstorming session escalated into an all-night piano party where the seeds of “Us” first took root.

As the wee hours of the morning approached, inspiration was flowing so freely that Abrams and Swift kept fueling their musical fire well past 2 AM. It wasn’t until the sun started to rise that they finally put the finishing touches on the emotional ballad. Exhausted but exhilarated, the duo celebrated with more drinks in the kitchen.

That’s when things almost went up in flames! Abrams recalls hearing a loud “crack” and rushed in to find Swift battling a raging inferno on the stovetop. A candle left burning had exploded, engulfing the entire kitchen counter. As sparks and flames roared higher, Swift frantically grabbed a fire extinguisher but couldn’t figure out how to work it.

Panicking, Abrams sprang into action and helped douse the blaze before it could spread. But not before both women suffered smoke inhalation and minor burns from the searing wax.

Despite the harrowing ordeal, Abrams says it was one of the most fun and meaningful creative experiences of her life. Not only did it yield a stunning new single, but it proved their musical magic under pressure. Now every time she hears “Us” playing, she’ll surely be reminded of the blazing jam session that almost went up in flames.
