It seems the father-daughter dynamic between country star Billy Ray Cyrus and pop phenomenon Miley Cyrus has taken a turn for the rocky. Billy Ray and Miley’s mom Tish were married for nearly 30 years before pulling the plug on their union in 2022.
Reports indicate Miley sided firmly with her mother during the divorce proceedings. By the following summer, she disconnected from her father on social media, a sign their bond had deteriorated. While the exact issues aren’t clear, many point to Billy Ray’s new relationship as a likely sticking point.
Just a few months after the divorce finalized, Billy Ray announced his engagement to Aussie singer Firerose – who, at only 4 years older than Miley, some felt was an odd choice given she and Billy Ray go way back to her Hannah Montana audition over a decade prior. Their chemistry seemed to spark while collaborating on tunes together during quarantine.
Adding another layer, Tish herself wasted no time in marrying actor Dominic Purcell that same summer in an intimate Malibu ceremony. All family attended besides Billy Ray, widening the rift even more.
Since these shifting relationship dynamics within the Cyrus clan, Miley has kept her distance from her father. While their on-screen father/daughter magic on Hannah Montana lives on, it seems some drama lingers behind the curtains for the iconic musical duo for now.
