Beach Boys singer and songwriter Brian Wilson will be placed under a court-appointed conservatorship due to declining mental health, according to a recent judge’s ruling. Wilson has been diagnosed with a major neurocognitive disorder which affects his ability to make personal and medical decisions independently.

The judge approved having Wilson’s publicist Jean Sievers and manager LeeAnn Hard serve as his conservators, finding clear evidence that Wilson needs and consents to the arrangement. Importantly, the ruling also ensures Wilson’s seven children will be consulted on all major medical decisions and kept informed as a group.

While still able to recognize family and general facts like the day, evaluations found Wilson could no longer name all his children or provide significant details in responses. This mental decline is reportedly due to dementia and other cognitive issues.

Wilson’s wife of many years, who previously managed his affairs, sadly passed away earlier this year. The conservatorship will now allow his trusted representatives to ensure his wellbeing and quality of life are maintained. Critically, it also prevents any extreme or unwanted changes to his routine and relationships.
