Chappell Roan confronted a photographer who had previously disrespected her at an industry event. On Friday, Roan attended the Los Angeles premiere of Olivia Rodrigo’s new concert film, Olivia Rodrigo: Guts World Tour, which will stream on Netflix starting October 28th.

Spotting a familiar face on the red carpet, Roan boldly walked over to address the photographer directly. “You,” she said, pointing him out. According to video clips shared on social media, Roan then challenged him saying “You were so disrespectful to me at the Grammys. You yelled at me at a Grammy party. I remember. You were so rude to me. And I deserve an apology for that … You need to apologize to me.”

Roan is known for speaking her mind and standing up for herself in uncomfortable situations. Last month at the MTV VMAs, when another photographer rudely yelled at Olivia Rodrigo to “Shut the f— up,” Roan quickly clapped back, defending her friend and collaborator.

Roan and Rodrigo have developed a close creative and personal relationship over the past year. Rodrigo invited Roan to perform on select dates of her recent Sour Tour, including their duet of “Hot to Go.” At Friday’s premiere, Rodrigo praised Roan’s support and advice, saying she provides a valuable perspective for navigating the music industry.

By directly calling out the disrespectful photographer, Roan demonstrated she wouldn’t tolerate being mistreated or disrespected, especially by those in positions of power. Her bold actions sent a message that celebrity red carpets should be respectful spaces for all. While the confrontation was brief, video clips resonated widely on social media over the weekend, with many applauding Roan for standing up for herself with confidence and poise.
