Beatport.io, a curated marketplace focused on music and artistic expression, recently announced its debut initiative – an ambitious multimedia project titled NACHTS. Developed in partnership with Define Creative and built upon the Polkadot blockchain, NACHTS aims to preserve and celebrate Berlin’s renowned club scene through portraiture, music, and cutting-edge technology.
Led by renowned photographer Mischa Fanghaenel, NACHTS features over 175 portraits capturing the vibrant personalities at the heart of Berlin’s nightlife. With a background as a doorman at underground nightclub Berghain, Fanghaenel brings a unique insider’s perspective to his subject matter. Select portraits will be showcased this September during Berlin Art Week, where collectors can utilize special NFT tickets to attend the exhibition.
In addition to the visual art, NACHTS also includes exclusively produced music from several esteemed Berlin-based artists, including DJ/producer Len Faki. Faki has contributed an unreleased track from his latest album, created specially for the first NACHTS drop launching this August. Future editions will showcase collaborations from Ellen Allien, Âme, Ben Klock, Dixon and many more scene luminaries.
What truly brings the project to life is the innovative use of AI. The portraits undergo subtle transformations, moving in synchronization with the paired musical compositions. This results in hypnotic works of digital art that aim to immerse viewers in the liveliness and pulsating rhythm of Berlin’s underground.
Through NACHTS, photographer Mischa Fanghaenel hopes to memorialize the inclusive culture and vibrant spirit that defines this community, even in its absence during the lockdowns. Debuting first on Beatport.io’s curated marketplace, the project promises to transcend traditional boundaries and inspire new ways of appreciating club-born art forms.
