Adele has been wowing crowds with her critically-acclaimed Weekends With Adele residency in Las Vegas over the past two months. But during her Halloween-themed performance last Friday, she was quite surprised when none other than Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep showed up in the audience.
Midway through her passionate rendition of “When We Were Young,” Adele spotted Streep sitting in the VIP section dressed as the character she made iconic in 1992’s Death Becomes Her – Madeline Ashton. Adele was coincidentally dressed as the same character for her Halloween costume that night. Upon noticing Streep, Adele hurried over to greet her, continuing to sing as she rushed through the audience.
Videos posted by fans in attendance show Adele immediately hugging Streep and exclaiming “What a fucking honor!” into the mic. She told Streep “I love you” before hurrying back to finish the song. Streep, ever gracious, was seen applauding and bowing to Adele in return for the surprise acknowledgement.
This adds Streep to Adele’s growing list of celebrity superfans who have come to see her perform at The Colosseum, built specifically for Celine Dion’s earlier residency. Adele has previously met the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Hillary Clinton, and Celine Dion herself, who she called getting to perform in “Celine’s palace” a “full circle moment.”
