Fans of One Direction star Liam Payne were left shocked after learning of the singer’s sudden death at age 31. Payne reportedly fell from the balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday evening.
Local police confirmed Payne suffered fatal injuries after plummeting from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in Palermo. Emergency responders rushed to the scene but could not revive the pop idol. Investigators are still working to determine the exact circumstances of the tragic incident.
Payne had been staying at the boutique hotel while in Buenos Aires. According to security ministry spokesperson Pablo Policicchio, authorities received a call about a disturbance and found Payne’s body in the courtyard upon arrival. The hotel has since been cordoned off as forensic teams investigate.
As one of five members of the global phenomenon boy band, Payne skyrocketed to fame on The X Factor in 2010. 1D soon topped charts worldwide with multiple hits. Though the group split in 2016, each artist retained a loyal solo following.
