A change in leadership is coming to Spotify. Jeremy Erlich, who has served as the company’s Global Head of Music, has announced he will be transitioning to an advisory role at the end of next year.

According to an internal memo shared with employees, Erlich expressed his decision to embark on his own entrepreneurial venture, a goal he has had for some time. He acknowledged that while it was a difficult choice, now felt like the right moment to peruse this new path.

Erlich joined Spotify in 2019 to oversee their music strategy after holding senior leadership roles within the music industry. He was integral in bringing K-Pop group Blackpink to Interscope Records, as well as taking on other responsibilities at Universal Music Group. His experience made him a valuable asset at Spotify, leading to his promotion to Global Head of Music in 2021.

As relayed in the staff memo, Erlich will remain with Spotify through February 2025 to advise David Kaefer, the new VP that his direct reports involving editorial, partnerships, and audience development will shift to reporting. Erlich expressed confidence that this transition will only strengthen Spotify’s music division despite any adjustments that may come with new leadership at the helm.
