In huge news for Disney Channel fans everywhere, our favorite wizarding family is set to return to our screens! Selena Gomez has confirmed that she will reprise her iconic role as Alex Russo in the upcoming limited series Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.
As longtime ‘Wizards’ followers will remember, the series centered around the Russo siblings – Justin, Alex, and Max – who were studying to become wizards while living with their parents in downtown Manhattan. The new show will focus on a grown-up Justin (David Henrie), now living a normal life with his own family. However, things take a magical turn when his sister Alex comes seeking help with her new apprentice, Billie.
Gomez, who also serves as an executive producer on the project, expressed her heartfelt connection to the show, saying, “Yes. I will be in the first episode. I’m executive producing it. It brings me to tears because that is the beginning of where I started. And to honor it in this way has truly been a blast, and I can’t wait for people to see it”
The news comes after Gomez and her co-star, David Henrie, teased fans with a first-look image of the reboot back in January. Henrie shared that their reunion felt seamless, adding, “We have a couple scenes that I think will choke up the original fan of the original show, and they’re really touching, and they went really well. So, I’m excited for you to see it.”
