As Camila Cabello prepares to release her highly anticipated fourth album ‘C,XOXO’ this Friday, she’s reflecting on an inspirational piece of advice given to her years ago by one of her songwriting heroes: Taylor Swift. In a recent interview with 11-year-old social media star Taylen Biggs, Camila opened up about first meeting Taylor at the VMAs when she was just 16.
Back when she was still performing with Fifth Harmony, Camila spotted Taylor sitting with fellow pop phenom Lorde and knew she had to go say hi. Despite being intimidated by the music legends, she worked up the courage to gush about how much she admired their work. Both Taylor and Lorde warmly welcomed Camila and left quite the impression.
Camila was just starting to branch out into writing her own lyrics but was hitting some creative roadblocks. “I was having a hard time getting out of this creative rut,” she told Taylen. Figuring who better to ask for advice than Taylor Swift herself, Camila posed the question – “What would you say if you’re having a lot of self doubt and you feel a little stuck?'”
Taylor’s response was both simple and impactful. “She said, ‘When that happens to me, [I] just keep writing through it. You just gotta keep going, keep writing through it.” Camila took Taylor’s wise words to heart and hasn’t looked back since, cementing her status as a triple-threat artist.
Flash forward to today, Camila has carved out an illustrious solo career, earning her place on the pop throne. ‘C,XOXO’ is sure to be her biggest and boldest project yet, featuring collabs with rap star Playboi Carti and not one but TWO tracks with Drake!
