Coldplay are preparing to drop their highly anticipated 10th studio album “Moon Music” next month, but what makes this release truly stand out is the eco-friendly materials and manufacturing processes used. In a world first, the vinyl version of “Moon Music” will be pressed on records made entirely from recycled plastic bottles, this move slashes the album’s carbon footprint by a massive 85% compared to traditional vinyl production methods.
Not stopping there, the CDs will also utilize 90% recycled plastic for their construction. This environmental-conscious approach results in a 78% reduction in emissions over standard CD manufacturing. Even more impressively, a special “Notebook Edition” will see 70% of its plastic sourced directly from intercepted ocean waste gathered by the nonprofit The Ocean Cleanup. The organization helps prevent tonnes of trash from polluting waters through river cleanup efforts. Founder Boyan Slat expressed excitement at partnering with Coldplay to give rescued plastic a second life.
The band is no stranger to pushing the boundaries when it comes to spreading green messages. Past initiatives like partnering with Massive Attack to reduce touring impacts or collaborating with activist Billie Eilish demonstrate Coldplay’s long-standing commitment to environmental causes. Fans will be thrilled by the eco-friendly angle of “Moon Music” and its accompanying single “feelslikeimfallinginlove”, out later this month.
Coldplay looks to keep the momentum going with their hugely popular Music of the Spheres world tour as well. Early numbers reveal carbon emissions have already been slashed a stunning 59% compared to their last tour through innovative uses of renewable batteries powering shows. As if that wasn’t enough, the alt-rock icons will also headline Glastonbury for an unparalleled 5th time this summer.
