It looks like the rockstar bachelor lifestyle is coming to an end for Matty Healy of The 1975. The British frontman is taking the next big step by getting hitched! Model Gabbriette Bechtel broke the news on her Instagram story Tuesday night with a photo showing off her unique engagement ring.
The ring, designed by Healy himself, features a dramatic black gem surrounded by diamonds. Bechtel cryptically captioned the shot “MARRYING THE 1975 IS VERY BRAT” – a reference to her attendance at Charli XCX’s recent album release party with her new fiancé. Healy soon reposted the picture, confirming their engagement bombshell.
His mother Denise Welch, a talk show host in the UK, spilled more details on the nuptials during her program the next day. “I have known for a few weeks that Matty got engaged. Black diamond [ring], he had it made for her. I couldn’t be more thrilled. We couldn’t be happier — she is everything I would want in a daughter-in-law.”
Healy and Bechtel have been an item for around a year now. The model previously told fans they had a chance meeting in LA after hoping to cross paths for four years. Since then it’s been smooth sailing, with source revealing the lovebirds enjoy cozy nights in indulging on delivery and gaming sessions.
This engagement caps off a time of major changes for Healy in the romance department. Just last summer, rumors swirled of a brief fling with singing superstar Taylor Swift. Now it seems he’s firmly moved on to settle down with his one and only.
