Tina Knowles recently sat down for an interview with Vogue where she opened up about her favorite childhood memories raising her superstar daughters Beyoncé and Solange, as well as their close family friend Kelly Rowland. Knowles has often referred to Rowland as her “third daughter” and it’s clear the bond between these women still runs deep.
In a post on her Instagram sharing highlights from the interview, Knowles recalled how little Beyoncé was quite shy as a kid but found her courage standing up for someone being bullied. “I’m getting emotional talking about it. I was just, I couldn’t have been more proud of her.”
When it came to her activist-minded daughter Solange, one memory stood out – seeing the young girl passionately collecting petition signatures in grade school. “She’s always been an activist” Knowles proudly stated. It’s no surprise Solange would grow up to use her platform for important causes.
As for Kelly Rowland, Knowles fondly remembered how the then-11-year-old came to live with their family after losing her mother. But it was Rowland’s role as a peacemaker between friends that warmed Knowles’ heart the most. The women’s tight bond is clearly still going strong to this day.
In wrapping up, Knowles emphasized celebrating each child’s individual strengths rather than negatives. It was a heartwarming look into the family dynamics that made them all who they are.
