Season 22 American Idol winner Abi Carter showed off an impressive vocal range during her time on the singing competition show. Judge Katy Perry was blown away by Carter’s “angelic” tone and emotional delivery. However, Perry acknowledges she’s made similar declarations of greatness before.
In a recent chat with EXTRA, Perry fondly recalled praising Ariana Grande years ago after seeing her perform live on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “The last time I said that, I said that about Ariana Grande when she went on The Ellen [DeGeneres] Show. I was like, ‘Oh this girl is the best singer of our generation.’ So, I don’t say that lightly” Perry shared.
Grande delivered standout performances of songs like “Breathin” and “thank u, next” on Ellen’s couch over the years. Her powerhouse vocals filled the studio with effortless grace. Perry understood immediately that Grande’s talent shone within a league of her own.
Now, Grande continues crafting sublime pop gems. Her January album Eternal Sunshine spent multiple weeks at number one on the Billboard charts. On TikTok a few months later, Grande celebrated the record’s milestone anniversary. She hinted at “yet to come” musical delights within “this eternal sunshine cycle.”
