Dua Lipa has scored a major career achievement with her latest studio album Radical Optimism. The pop star’s third record debuted at the top of the Billboard Top Album Sales chart, marking Dua Lipa’s first #1 album in the US.
According to Luminate, Radical Optimism sold 51,500 total copies in its first week. This makes it easily Dua Lipa’s highest-selling debut to date, far surpassing her previous personal best of 18,000 units for 2020’s Future Nostalgia.
Physical formats played a key role in the album’s big opening numbers. An impressive 20,000 copies were sold as vinyl records – the highest vinyl sales week of Dua Lipa’s career. Additional CD and cassette copies contributed to over 39,000 physical albums sold.
The vinyl popularity can be attributed to several exclusive color variants released through different retailers. This extensive physical release campaign clearly resonated with Dua Lipa’s fans. Digital downloads accounted for the remaining 12,500 units sold.
