In a recent interview on the SmartLess podcast, actress Selena Gomez opened up about wanting to focus more on her acting career in the future. While she has found success in both music and television, Gomez notes that she is ready to settle into one lane.

The Only Murders in the Building star reflected on her early career beginnings with Disney Channel. Starring in Wizards of Waverly Place, she was asked to sing the theme song – helping develop her abilities in both singing and acting. This led to recording her self-titled debut album in 2008.

Though music became a larger part of her career than initially planned, Gomez admitted the workload took a toll on her mental health at times. She was hospitalized and had to cancel a tour due to exhaustion. While grateful for the opportunities in both fields, Gomez says she now wants to avoid such an intense schedule going forward.

With several successful albums under her belt, Gomez told the hosts she feels she has “one more album in her.” However, she indicated a preference to focus more on acting roles from that point on. Her passion lies in sharing stories through her art, whether music or film.

The hosts praised Gomez’s talents but recognized her desire to scale back. She affirmed this, saying after years of juggling various projects, she’s ready for a less hectic pace. While open-minded, Gomez’s priorities seem to be shifting towards acting and using her platform to help others through initiatives like her Rare Beauty line.
