Lisa of the iconic K-pop girl group BLACKPINK ended 2023 on a high note by covering one of Britney Spears’ beloved holiday songs. In a video filmed in the romantic streets of Paris, Lisa performed an astonishing rendition of Britney’s 2000 hit “My Only Wish (This Year)”.
Posted on Christmas Day, Lisa’s cover has already amassed over 7.6 million views on YouTube. Fans were surprised but delighted to hear Lisa’s impressive vocals shine on the magical melody, straying from her usual rapped verses.
She was not the only BLACKPINK member to spread holiday cheer through music. Fellow singer Jennie shared her own cover, this time of Sia’s “Snowman” but in Korean. Her video has over 7.3 million views as well.
Jennie made additional headlines by announcing the launch of her fashion brand OA, short for “Odd Atelier”. She described it as a space to create attention-grabbing products outside of expectations. She encouraged fans to show their love and support for her new venture.
BLACKPINK ended their massive “Born Pink Tour” in the Metaverse this past too. On December 26th, fans experienced the final show through the virtual reality platform “BLACKPINK: A VR”. It was a satisfying conclusion to a phenomenally successful year for the groundbreaking girl group that saw them sell out shows worldwide, including headlining Coachella festival. Lisa and Jennie’s unexpected music gifts ensured BLACKPINK supporters went into 2024 feeling inspired.
