According to the National Music Publishers Association, a few of the industry’s most amazing songwriters were especially on fire during Q1 2024. In their newest set of honors, highlighting Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum certifications from January through March, two hitmakers stood out amongst the rest.
R&B icon Usher further solidified himself as a prolific chart-topping artist-songwriter. This smooth crooner, known for timeless smashes like “Confessions Part II” and “U Got It Bad,” racked up an impressive 20 certifications. The hits off his multi-platinum albums have continued captivating new fans, with Usher attracting over 40 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone.
Not only has Usher won the world with his enchanting voice, but he is also an eight-time Grammy winner known for his deep skill in songwriting. His catalog at Sony Music Publishing testifies that he is truly one of music’s most successful performers ever.
Meanwhile, country songwriter Ashley Gorley had himself a quarter for the record books. The mega-hit maker, who’s no stranger to the top of the charts, notched eight new certifications, including “Last Night” going 7x Platinum. His genre-blending songs have paved the way for many to find their way into mainstream success.
With over 350 of his songs sold to publishing companies last year alone, the world knows Gorley has his pulse on popular music. His unequalled way with words continues to break records across genres through incisive storytelling.
