Taylor Swift’s acoustic performances in Milan, Italy over the weekend didn’t quite go as planned, with the pop star facing not one but two unexpected onstage obstacles. During her Saturday show at the San Siro Stadium, Swift found herself with an extra vocal backup when an unwelcome insect flew directly into her mouth!

“I knew it would happen ’cause there’s so many bugs here tonight,” Swift joked with the enthusiastic crowd, taking the bug intrusion in stride. Though used to performing outdoors, she admitted, “I just need to cough a little bit!” After a brief pause to collect herself, Swift smoothly continued her soulful piano rendition of “I Almost Do/The Moment I Knew”.

The singing insect wasn’t the only surprise of Swift’s acoustic set though. On Sunday, piano problems forced an impromptu change of plans. Mid-song, the keys refused to cooperate, rendering the intricate “All Too Well” melody impossible. Always quick on her feet, Swift seamlessly switched to her trusty acoustic guitar instead.

Though thrown off script, Swift connected with fans through her passionate vocal performance and candid stage presence. She revealed rare cuts like “The 1”, while delighting the crowd with emotional deep cuts from folklore and evermore. Even with bugs in her mouth and balky pianos, Taylor Swift once again proved why she remains the queen of live performances and rolling with whatever comes her way.
