All eyes were on Sabrina Carpenter, as she dominated the VMAs stage with a tour de force performance that sealed the deal: She’s pop’s next rising starlet. Just one year after gracing the pre-show with her dulcet tones, Carpenter was granted center stage at music’s biggest bash.
Clad in a scant corset that channeled her inner bombshell, Carpenter took flight both literally and figuratively with her medley of hits. Suspended above the arena floor, crystalline vocals soared on her latest single, “Taste”.
Paying homage to the divas that birthed her art, Carpenter sashayed through “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” with a saucy wink to icons Britney and Marilyn. A sizzling sample and an alien kiss showed she had star power to burn long before the night was through.
And what a finish it was: with a single strut to the podium, Carpenter took her first Moonman for “Song of the Year” for her song “Espresso.” Her speech thanked all who lifted her star on ascent, from loyal fans to skilled collaborators who took the raw talent in hand.
